Simple Respirometer
Product Code : SCL-SK-11956
Simple Respirometer for comparing the rates of absorption or evolution of gases by small organisms, during respiration. The apparatus consists of two stoppered boiling tubes connected by three-way taps to either limb of a graduated manometer.
One tube holds the organisms and has a syringe connector for altering the level of liquid in the manometer during setting up.
The other tube acts as a control thermobarometer. The Carbon Dioxide given off by the respiring organisms is absorbed by Potassium Hydroxide in the experimental chamber resulting in a change in the level of liquid in the manometer tube.
- Complete with wire baskets for supporting organisms.
- Capillary Tube Diameter - 0.8mm (approx.)
- Easy to use and set up.
- The wire baskets support and protect the organisms being studied.
- Evolution of carbon dioxide by organisms or fermenting yeast,
- Evolution of oxygen during photosynthesis (if used with Algae)
- Suitable living organisms include Woodlice, Locusts, Maggots (Yeast can also be used)
- Potassium Hydroxide can be purchased separately.
